Discovering Your Destiny

People often wonder if they missed their calling. Have we lived our best life? Could we do more? I think we all want to fulfill our destiny. Every born again Christian should seek the mind of Christ, the image of the Father, and walk in the Spirit. Those things enable us to see that God has a destiny each one of us.

The mind of Christ equips us with the knowledge of the will of God. The image of the Father gives us the example to follow. And, walking in the Spirit causes us to stay on track. All three things are necessary for us to discover our destiny.

Inside of the Body of Christ we should be seeking to discover our own destiny every single day. What does God want from me? What does He have planned for my life? Ephesians 1:11 says, "In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will." I think this is what Paul is speaking of in Romans 8:28 when he hints about being called according to a purpose, a predetermined course.

Let me be clear about one thing, I do not believe in what is often called "predestination." I do not adhere to the teaching that we are pre-programmed drones, only doing what God has predetermined for us. Instead, I believe the Scriptures teach that God has predestined the courses laid out before us and gives us the opportunity to choose. All we have to do is follow Him!

What happens if I take the wrong path? God loves to give second chances. You’ll find the path again. Just hold to His hand and He will lead the way. Paul reminds us that God "has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began" (II Timothy 1:9).

One way you can assure yourself you will find the answers is to seek God first (Matthew 6:33). Ask, seek and knock (Matthew 7:7). Pray for wisdom. Read your Bible. Spend time talking to godly people. Do what is right. That is how you discover your destiny.

You are loved.
