When You Are Overwhelmed

Updated: Jul 20, 2021

OVERWHELMED is defined like this....

1. to overcome completely in mind or feeling.

2. to overpower or overcome, especially with superior forces; destroy; crush.

3. to cover or bury beneath a mass of something, as floodwaters, debris, or an avalanche; submerge.

4. to load, heap, treat, or address with an overpowering or excessive amount of anything.

5. to overthrow.

Have you ever felt overwhelmed? Have you ever felt Iike you were in an impossible situation? I know I have found myself in that place. Sometimes we think things are imposssible or hopeless. That’s because often they are… but not always. For instance, this past week I have helped in directing TITUS Camp at Heritage Christian University. I found myself overwhelmed and exhausted. Managing 50 kids, 25 adults and a dozen teachers with an eight day schedule may seem crazy. However, it was accomplished and successful.

Maybe you’ve struggled with doubt, addiction, pain, or death. Possibly you deal with depression, sickness, anxiety or grief. What do you do? I want to remind you of what is said in Psalm 61:2:"From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I." What a great reminder. You and I must rely on the One that can handle our problems. The Lord is the One to whom we should cry. He can help us when our heart is overwhelemed. He is the Rock that is higher and greater. He is the One who can provide safety and security.

God will help you when you are overwhelmed. Moses learned this lesson. David learned this lesson. Paul learned this lesson. Have you learned it? Don’t be overwhelmed… instead let God overthrow it!

You are loved.
