You’ve Always Got the Time

The definition for faith may be found in Hebrews 11:1 but in my mind there are two great verses that are centered on the subject of faith. Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

What do the Scriptures mean when they speak of faith? There are seven kinds or expressions of faith found in the Scriptures:

(1) Genesis 15:6 – Justifying Faith

(2) Acts 16:31 – Saving Faith

(3) II Corinthians 5:7 – Daily Faith

(4) Galatians 2:20 – Indwelling Faith

(5) Hebrews 11:1-3 – Gift of Faith

(6) Hebrews 11:6-40 – Active Faith

(7) Jude 3 – Doctrinal faith

What do you know about Josiah? The Old Testament story of Josiah, the King of Judah (II Chronicles 34) seems to reveal nearly all of these expressions of faith. Remember that there were stages of reform in the Josiah revival. First, he “...began to seek the God of David his (grandfather) father” (34:3). Second, he purged Judah of idolatrous objects

(34:3-7). And then he repaired the house of God (34:8).

What caused a young boy to make these changes? The answer is found in Josiah’s desire to know the God of David (34:2). Josiah found a book that brought revival to his nation (34:14). He had a time of genuine repentance for himself and his nation (34:19). I believe that the entrance of God’s Word into a person gives correction and guidance to that man (Psalms 119:9-11, 129-136).

What was Josiah passionate about? Josiah found he loved the Word of God. He even shared it with his friends (34:29-30) as it says, “...he read in their ears...” God intended for His people to “hear” the Word regularly. And I can promise you that this intention was not just for the first day of the week. The word “hearing” is referred to 1230 times and “reading” is referred to about 76 times. When will you read the Word of God and hear His message?

Do you have a love for God’s Word as Josiah did? Where are you in your relationship with God? How’s your faith? Would you like to have more faith? Most people would appreciate a fresh new message from God, like Josiah. All you have to do is pick up a copy of the Word of God and read it. Spend time in God’s Word and He will bless you. You always have the time to sit down and read the Word of God. While you’re at it say a little prayer and get focused on what it means to be a Christian. It will be a great blessing to you, guaranteed! Have a great week.

You are loved!
